Sharing Kindness Rocks along our many adventures!

Yuba City ~ A Walk down Memory Lane

Yuba City is where I was raised and so much of who I am today is because of this small town. I was very excited to show it to Cat and tell her all the funny stories of my youth.

Our first stop was St Isidore’s School, my elementary school. The school felt so much smaller than I remembered. We got a lovely tour from the current 6th grade teacher, I think his name was Dave Benny, who also gave us an update on recent changes the school has gone thru.

Then we drove by what used to be my dad’s work on our way to Brock’s Ice Cream. It definitely wasn’t a Body Shop back in the day.

I also showed Caitlyn Yuba City High School – with our infamous football stadium which proudly states our mascot, “Home of the Honkers”.

This was our Senior rock. Back in the day we used to spray paint it every weekend ~ making sure that everyone knew the class of 1991 was the best graduating class and other silly rants of our awesomeness. This seems rather tame these days….

I was able to sync up with my friend Heather and see her kids. They have grown up. They even helped paint a few rocks!

We drove passed Ellis Lake which looks exactly the same. I think it still has the same water that it had when I used to live there! It was pretty dark and dirty!

We stopped in our old neighborhood andI showed Cat where I used to live. It looks the same really.

I completely forgot that the back alley that dead ended into our house was called Howard. That is an odd coincidence.

We also saw my favorite neighbor Gloria.

We grabbed some ice and snacks on our way out. Only in Yuba City do they have live chickens and roosters hanging out at the local grocery store!

We drove by the Sutter Buttes, the world’s smallest mountain range. I spent a lot of time out there when I was growing up and it was a great view to have while we drove out of town.

It amazed me how small Yuba City actually is. Distances that felt so far and long when I was younger were really only 5-10 minutes. Even my block felt so much smaller than I remembered. So much has changed (There is an In and Out Burger and a Harley Davidson store) yet so much hasn’t – the neighborhoods look the same, many of the stores are the same and the people are still really friendly.

It was fun showing Cat all the places that meant a lot to me. I hope she looks back at our hometown with the same fond memories that I have for Yuba City.
